Why celebrate Evariste Galois?

Hey, why not?

... this is a guy who got thrown out of school for his radical politics, put on trial for threatening to kill the king, thrown in jail for trying to storm the Bastille, and killed in a duel over his first love...

... o, and he essentially created modern algebra.... all before he reached the age of 21....

This guy lived life with a passion... and while passion may die, it should be never forgotten...

... yet outside of some maths guys, Evariste is almost forgotten... and that's sad...

so yeah, let's celebrate :

The Who : Evariste Galois
The What : Romantic, Revolutionary, Mad Mathematician
The When : 1830s
The Where : Paris, France
The Why : This guy founded modern algebra

Romantic, Revolutionary, Mad Mathematician

First post about Evariste Galois... 200 years young a year from now in 2011... we're here to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man, who is so remarkably forgotten...

... so let's start this blog with a bang of the Gong...
